Donamon Castle, Co. Roscommon (14thC)

In the late 1930’s, the Divine Word Missionaries acquired Donamon Castle, a 14th Century fortified residence. The Castle was comprehensively surveyed by OCA over a period of 18 months and detailed drawings were prepared of all existing sturctures.  Mary O’Carroll of OCA was appointed in 1985 to carry out the refurbishment of the Castle and it’s 19th Century extensions.  The roofs were carefully restored and the 19th Century extensions were refurbished.  The stonework on both parts was carefully treated and a continuous programme of upgrading of the existing Castle was put in hand.
