King House, Boyle

OCA was commissioned in June 1980 to carry out a comprehensive survey of the ruined King House by one of the many Voluntary Organisations supporting its re-instatement.  A detailed and comprehensive Survey of the building and surrounds was carried out and was later put on exhibition at the Boyle Arts Festival.  Critical comment was very good at the time.  As a result, a greater interest was expressed by many Authorities in the building and eventually Roscommon County Council decided to acquire it and go ahead with its reinstatement.

OCA prepared a Development Brochure and a comprehensive history of the building which was circulated widely in the United States.  The result was that the Local Authority was in a position then to acquire the building and commence its restoration.  In the final analysis, Maura Shaffrey of Shaffrey Associates, with the assistance of OCA, carried out the subsequent refurbishment work.  The building is now open to the Public and houses a number of Exhibitions
