Roscommon Library

The former charitable Infirmary in Roscommon town was built in 1783 and was used for that purpose up to the early 1940s when it then became the Civil Defence Centre and town Library.

In 1989 OCA was commissioned to carry out a complete restoration and reconstruction of the entire building, to contain the Roscommon town lending Library, the County Archives and the County Library Headquarters.  The work was carried out carefully over a period of 2 years and the buildings now also house the County Development Board offices and the County Council Laboratories.  Portion of the property included a quality Gate-Lodge and the old walls of the site were regrettably demolished by Roscommon County Council, for road-widening purposes.  The results of the project have been very successful.
